Fun in the Finger Lakes

We spent a couple of days over Memorial Day weekend in the Finger Lakes.  Although the weather was a little chilly, we had a great time.  The area is beautiful and of course the wine is good:)  The first day we made our way around Keuka Lake hitting the following wineries: Ravines, Rooster Hill, Dr. Franks, and  Keuka Springs.  The view at Rooster Hill was really pretty and I probably liked the wine the best a Keuka Springs (we already drank my bottle that I got to make sangria), Ravines was also very good.  We stayed overnight in the town of Hammondsport which was an even smaller town than Gettysburg, located right at the end of Keuka Lake.  We stayed in a room above the Village Tavern on the square.  We ate dinner at the Village Tavern and it was really good, especially the Boston Cream Pie.  After dinner, we checked out the local pub, Maloneys, where the bartender made a very good raspberry "lemonadeish" (wish I knew what it was called).

The next day we made our way to Seneca Lake and explored the wine trail.  We stopped at: Red Newt, Chateau Lafayette, Penguin Bay, Ryan Michael, Hazlitt, Leidenfrost, and Standing Stone.  My favorite of these was probably Standing Stone.  Hazelit had a fun and laid back atmosphere and they gave out popcorn with the tastings, which was something different and yummy.  Chateau Lafeyette was so pretty and I really enjoyed the views/setting.  We didn't even come close to stopping at even half of the wineries, there are just so many, some of which aren't even listed on the maps (e.g. Ryan Michael)!  Everyone that offered tastings was very friendly and helpful, and for a few bucks we really enjoyed sampling (and purchasing) many of the wines. While on Seneca Lake, we stopped at Wagner for lunch and Nate also sampled their beers.  We didn't try any of their wine but Nate did like the beers, the food was average but the view was great.  We spent the night at Glenora Wine Cellars.  I really liked the room and views were beautiful!  Their wines were only okay.  We ate at the restaurant at Glenora for dinner and it was pretty good but not as good as the Village Tavern.  The service at the restaurant was slow and for the price I would probably try somewhere else next time (but that would require a little bit of a drive to Watkins Glen).  The next day before heading home we stopped and hiked the trail at Watkins Glen state park.  We really enjoyed this; it was so beautiful!  Overall, it was a fun and relaxing weekend and I'd definitely recommend a visit to the Finger Lakes.

Cheers to 7 years!
